Frequently Asked Questions
How do i register?
Register through our website. If a program is full, you can join the waitlist by emailing info@sproutsnatureschool.com and we’ll reach out if a spot opens up.
Can my child try one session first?
Yes! Children can drop in for a single session when space allows, at a per day rate. Rech out to info@sproutsnatureschool to check availability.
Does my child need outdoor experience?
Not at all. Sprouts is for every kind of kid, from those who have never dug in a garden to those who basically live outside! We’ll meet your child where they are.
why the broad age range?
Sprouts programs are open to kids from ages 4 through 12. We’ve found that when kids of different ages work together, there is collaboration, mentorship, and growth. Activities like cooking and gardening are well suited for kids of all ages. When one child masters a skill and then helps another learn it, it builds teamwork, confidence, and cooperation.
Where do you meet?
Our programs take place at different parks. Before your selected program begins, you’ll receive an email with the location(s) and where to find us.
What does a typical day look like?
Each day begins with a soft start of free play, followed by an opening circle where we introduce the day’s plan. Then we dive into our first activity, such as gardening, crafts, cooking, or nature exploration. We wrap up with a group activity and closing circle before pickup.
are start times flexible?
Yes. Programs begin with a ‘soft start’: a 30 minute window after the listed start time for choice time and free play, unless otherwise noted. Please reach out if you need to arrive early.
How does drop off and pickup work?
Children may only be picked up by adults listed on their registration form. If someone different will be picking up your child, please let us know ahead of time.
what if i can't pick up my child until after the end time?
Reach out ahead of time and we’ll do our best to meet your scheduling needs. A late pickup fee may apply.
do you offer carpooling or bridge care?
Bridge care looks different for every family, so reach out and we’ll see what we can coordinate. We’re also happy to help connect families interested in carpooling.
what does my child need to bring?
- Water bottle
- Bug spray/sunscreen
- Extra socks/clothes
- Lunch and snack for full days
We always recommend bringing a rain jacket and waterproof walking shoes or boots. An extra change of clothes/socks is recommended just in case. I will keep extra clothing on hand in case of emergencies.
In cold weather, we recommend:
- Warm layers (base layer, sweatshirt or fleece, winter coat)
- Hat, gloves, and warm socks
- Waterproof boots and snow pants
- An extra pair of gloves and socks
ARE SNACKS PROVIDED?
After school programs always include a snack. Camps will also include an afternoon snack. Please send a morning snack and lunch for full day camps. Please note any dietary restrictions or preferences when you register.
Who leads sprouts programs?
Programs are led by Ilsa and trained Sprouts staff. All staff are background checked and CPR/First Aid certified. We aim for a ratio of 1 staff member to every 7 kids whenever possible.
will you have a first aid kit?
Staff keep first aid with them at all times. Please let us know about any allergies or medical needs when you register.
what if the weather is bad?
If it’s raining and the park has a shelter, we’ll still meet. If there is thunder and lighting, we will wait 30 minutes in the shelter, and if the storm continues we will move to the closest public library. There will also be the option to pick up early. If the “real feel” temperature is below 20 degrees or above 95 degrees, we will typically reschedule, and families will be involved in that process.
do you offer discounts or payment plans?
We offer a 10% sibling discount (not including transportation) and payment plans. If cost is a barrier, please reach out to ilsa@sproutsnatureschool and we’ll try to work something out.
